To the Montaldo family,
I'm very sadden by the loss of my old WHS classmate Sam. Sam was a kind and friendly person, always smiling. We shared many school years together. We will miss Sam, but know always he is in our hearts.

His dad was my barber for years when I was a child. I knew him then we were 3 years apart. When I got him as my optometrist I was thrilled. He was always polite, concerned and thorough with his demeanor. He knew my late dad Angelo Miceli as well. A huge loss for the family, community and medical profession. I will always remember him, and trust me going to get my eyes checked is going to be very difficult from this point forward. My best to his wife and children, he was a great human being!

Dearest Deb & Children,
When I close my eyes, I see a little boy & his brothers running outside my house on Riverview Ave. We're all laughing and just being kids having fun while Aunty Ginny & Uncle Sam ( your grandparents) are in the house eating soupy and cheese and what I wouldn't give to go back to those days right now. Please accept my deepest sympathy and know that Dad will always be in your heart. Deb, what a beautiful family you & Sam created and a marriage that definitely was Divine Intervention. And in the difficult days ahead, may God hold you all close to His Heart♥️

First off, I want to express my deepest and sincerest condolences to Deb and her family as our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Sam, you were one of the most remarkable human beings I have ever met. You were everything that a friend could ever ask for. Not only were you an all around great person but a devoted family man, husband, Catholic, Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, and an active member of our community loved by all. Friends like you are one in a million and I am so blessed to have had the years of friendship we created in such a short period of time. Thanks for being such a wonderful person, true friend, and voice of reason as you will be so greatly missed. I'll never forget the kindness and generosity you gave to our family over the years. Even though it's so hard to say goodbye I know your beautiful soul will continue to live on in Heaven while you forever rest in peace. I love you Kakootz and I'll see you soon my friend.

My deepest condolences to the entire family of Dr. Sam Montalto. I had the honor of having Sammy as my classmate and my friend from first grade through college and can unreservedly say that he was the kindest guy I ever new. He never had anything bad to say about anyone and on the contrary lifted those around him by his words and deeds. Although it's been many years since I've spoken with Sammy I still considered him a good friend and I will miss his presence here on Earth. He was truly a blessing to us all, God Speed home Sammy!

To all of Sam's family and friends,

Sam has always been a respected colleague and a voice of reason in our profession of optometry. Sam left our profession earlier than most doctors plan, but he did more than his share to leave his profession and his community a better place. Always a kind word about others, and always a gentle smile as he spoke, Sam made an impression on others that I know will not be forgotten by many family, friends and patients alike. I will certainly miss Sam at our local gatherings, but I assure you his strong spirit is in many of our hearts.

Today, I just read and found out about the passing of Dr. Samuel Montalto. I send my heartfelt condolences. As a Westerly native, Dr. Montalto was my eye doctor as a child, teenager, and young adult. And he was my parents' eye doctor as well. He was a great doctor and took great care of us all. He was a great man as well. Although I hadn't seen him in about 20 years, he will be missed and fondly remembered. The world lost a great doctor and a great man.

There aren't any words that I can think of in the English language at this time elevate your pain. My prayer for all of your family is to hold on tight to each other and treasure all the good times. Take the time to laugh on all the funny things that happened as your husband or as your daddy made you laughed over something that was just so silly. Celebrate his life and the life you shared together. Family is God's gift to each set of parents and both of you were so blessed. God bless to you all.

Debbie and the Montalto family,
We are so sorry for your loss! Sam was a person of great integrity and stength. I feel fortunate to have known him while I was at URI with him at Phi Sigma Kappa. As he was a year ahead of me in the College of Pharmacy, he was always there to offer encouragement, support and friendship to me. I was very happy to have reconnected with him when I returned to Rhode Island on business. Mb and I will pray for your family.

Where to begin! I met Sam at an exercise group I attended. I was immediately drawn to his charismatic charm and friendliness. After meeting a small group from the exercise group formed in which I immediately valued Dr. Sam as a friend. Sam was full of life, a devoted Roman Catholic, and deeply loved his family. Dr. Sam often spoke of his two daughters, his son, and his amazing wife Deb. Unfortunately I left the area shortly before Dr. Sam was diagnosed with cancer. There are no words to describe the loss of Dr. Sam as he was a rarity in this often cruel world. I pray that his family find peace in the passing of this great honorable man: Dr. Samuel J. Montalto. May you fly high upon Eagle's Peak and may all the angels and Saints welcome you into paradise. Your memory will never be forgotten.
