Sylvie Ray Morton passed away Thursday, March 16 at The RI Hospital after a long, courageous battle with leukemia.
Sylvie was born June first, 1961 in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, France. She was the daughter of Serge Edgard Ray and the late Jeanine Morand Ray of Saint Yrieix la Perche, France.
She is survived by her husband (31 years) William R. Morton; son Gregory W. Morton, Hartford, CT; daughter Kimberly M. Morton, Tallahassee, FL; brother Georges Ray (Patricia), Yerres, France; sister-in-law Linda Reith (Charles), McKinney, TX and many dearly loved cousins, nephews and nieces.
Sylvie grew up outside Paris, France and spent summers in the country side village of Saint Yrieix la Perche. She moved to Long Island, NY in 1985 where she met her husband and then settled in Westerly in 1989 and together they raised their family. She always loved coaching and watching her children play soccer. She was always so proud of them.
Sylvie taught French language at Saint Michael School, Pawcatuck, CT for nearly twenty years. She was so fond of her students and their accomplishments.
She loved to travel home to France to spend time with her family as well as go exploring in Paris, her favorite place. She also enjoyed walking on the beach searching for sea glass and spending time enjoying the company of her loving friends at Seaside Beach.
Sylvie will always be remembered for how easily she made friends, loyalty, sincerity and adorable smile.
She will be dearly missed by all those that knew her, adored pets Sophie, Stewie and Zena and all the critters she loved to feed in the back yard.
May God hold her in the palm of his hand.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for calling hours on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Buckler- Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main Street, Westerly, RI 02891. Funeral services and burial will be held in Saint Yrieix la Perche, France at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in her honor to St. Michael Church Reconstruction Project, 60 Liberty Street, Pawcatuck, CT 06379 or to the Westerly Animal Shelter, 33 Larry Hirsch Lane, Westerly, RI 02891.
