WESTERLY - Jessie E. (Ahern) King, 88, of New Port Richey, Fla. and Westerly, R.I., passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. Born in North Stonington, Conn. on June 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel (Whipple) Ahern.
If you knew Jessie, you loved her. She was generous, kind, and would give you anything she could to help you. She enjoyed her work as a weaver and continued to make things in her free time, knitting and crocheting for her family. Jessie was always busy, whether working, taking care of her family, being a Sunday school teacher, and making sure that every family gathering or holiday went perfectly. She still even managed to find time for herself participating in bowling leagues, playing games, and cards. Most importantly, she was a loving mother and "Granny", and will be so dearly missed by all who knew her.
She leaves her children, Linda Cherry Wirshels (Charles), of Florida, Joyce (Michael) Fitts, of Groton, Conn., Susan King, of Westerly, Judith (Joseph) Falcone, of Westerly, and Theresa Grove, of Westerly; and her siblings, John Ahern, Jim Ahern, Joyce Crider, and Phylis Obermann; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children, Stephen Cherry, Sharon King, and William Cherry; along with her siblings, Blanche Hill Read, Gloria Crider, Betty Johnson Currier, and Ralph Ahern Jr.
Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, R.I. A service will follow at 12 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the calling hours. Burial will be private.
